Family of missing Edinburgh restaurant owner issue desperate appeal to find him

The family of a missing Edinburgh restaurant owner who vanished at a popular Scots beauty spot are desperately appealing for help to find him.

Richard Forbes was last seen at the Drift Cafe in the Canty Bay area North Berwick on March 18 at around 2.50pm.

The popular 52-year-old, who owns the Smoke Stack eatery in Edinburgh’s Broughton Street, has not been seen since and concern is growing for his welfare.

A major police search has been launched to try to find Richard with a number of specialist resources, including the force helicopter, scouring the coastline.

Worried friends and family are now appealing for help on social media in a bid to bring the missing dad-of-two home.

Hannah Campbell wrote: “My uncle Richard is currently missing and was last seen in North Berwick.

“Please please can you keep an eye out and let the police know if you have any information.

“In an already stressful time, this situation has been made much more worrying for all of us involved. Please let’s get him home safe.”

Sharing the police appeal, Fiona Van-Hay issued a similar plea and said: “Please, please share this far and wide.

“Richard Forbes is my cousin’s husband and has been missing since yesterday afternoon.

“Please, please help us find Richard and get him back to Karen and the children as soon as possible.”

And Kim Giles added: “Please keep sharing folks. Our cousin Richard Forbes is still missing.

“Last seen in the North Berwick area on Wednesday afternoon.

“We hope he’s found safe and well and is reunited with his wife and children very soon.”

Police Scotland is also appealing for help to try to find Richard, who is known to have travelled to East Lothian after leaving an address in Duddingston Crescent in Edinburgh.

He is described as being a white man, around 6ft 2, of a medium build and has grey hair.

Inspector Grant McCulloch, from Craigmillar Police Station in Edinburgh, previously said: “We are appealing for anyone with knowledge of Richard’s whereabouts to come forward, as we are becoming increasingly concerned for his well being as time moves on.

“Officers and a number of specialist resources, such as our helicopter, have been out searching in the Canty Bay area of North Berwick, and this activity will carry on throughout today also.

“Anyone with information should contact Police on 101, quoting incident 2035 of 18 March.”
