Family of missing Donegal mum left 'bamboozled' after her disappearance

The daughter of a missing woman said her family are “bamboozled” by her disappearance and issued an appeal to the public for information.

Ann O’Donoghue, 68, was last seen by a neighbour walking her dog in the Annagry area of Co Donegal on Tuesday evening.

The local woman is 5ft 3ins, with a slight build and blonde shoulder-length hair with grey roots.

Her daughter Alice Flanagan said yesterday the family are very alarmed as it is completely out of character.

She added: “She’s never done anything like this before, she has no history of any memory, psychological or mental health issues.

“Her family and siblings are all bamboozled.”

Ann sent an unusual text message to her husband John at about 5.30pm that worried him, however, her loved ones do not want to share that publicly.

Alice said: “The car has been found but I’ve been asked [by gardai] to not say where it is just in case it sends people on the wrong track. We don’t have any definite news besides that.”

The vehicle is a sky blue Subaru Forester jeep with the reg 162-D-8469.

Alice described Ann as being very fit and healthy – she walks 7km a day – and loves walking on the beach. The Dublin native was formerly a local dentist in Gweedore and she has been enjoying her retirement.

Her concerned daughter told the Ray D’Arcy Show on RTE Radio 1: “Mum if you’re able to hear this – we’re all here waiting for you to come home.

“We miss you and we love you and even if you don’t feel like calling us, send a text to let us know you’re OK.

“And Murphy your little dog is here and he’s dying to go for a walk. We want you to come home safe.”

Alice said Ann took the lockdown seriously and her husband has underlying health issues.

She added: “We think it’s just everything, that the walls started to come in around her and she just felt the need to break out and hopefully she’s booked in somewhere for a couple of days and she’ll come home. She could be anywhere in the country.

“We’re really reaching out to everybody if you’re going about your normal day just please have a double check, look around you and try and take note of who you see and what you see.”

Anyone with information on Ann’s whereabouts should contact gardai in Milford on 074 9153060 or the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111.
