Family of Justin McLaughlin warn troublemakers to stay away from memorial event for murdered teen

The heartbroken family of murdered teen Justin McLaughlin have warned troublemakers to stay away from a memorial event for the teen.

Mourners are set to gather for a balloon release in tribute to the 14-year-old who died after allegedly being attacked at a Glasgow train station on Saturday.

Friends and loved ones have been invited to come pay their respects to the Celtic-daft teenager with people urged to wear green and white clothing.

The event is due to take place on sport pitches near the teenager’s home in Baillieston at 3pm on Saturday, October 23.

His auntie, Maggie McLaughlin issued a stern warning to those attending to be on their best behaviour amid fears of further violence.

Posting on social media, she said: “Hi guys just a wee event sorted for Justin’s balloon release for family friends etc.

“Please be warned as there will be kids attending so no a******** or trouble as our family wants the respect that’s deserved.

“So if there’s any trouble in the slightest you will be asked to leave. So 15:00 but if you can be there for 15:30 the latest as the balloons will be set off for 15:45.

“And if we can ask for anyone attending to wear green and white or just green or just white.

“Thanks very much for everyone’s support towards Justin. It’s unbelievable and my sister Stephanie and Ants, his two wee brothers and the rest of the family.

“It’s appreciated, can't thank you all enough. Fly high Justin son. We all love you so much. “Your gawny be missed by so many people. Can’t even explain it in words. Thanks again everyone.”

It is understood that police officers will be in attendance at the event.

A 16-year-old male has appeared in court charged with murdering Justin during an incident at High Street train station last weekend.

He made no plea during a private appearance at Glasgow Sheriff Court and was remanded in custody.

The youth, who cannot be named for legal reasons, has also been charged with assault to severe injury, threatening behaviour and having a bladed item in public.
