Family of Irishman who disappeared in Tenerife told a body has been found on the island

The family of an Irishman who disappeared in Tenerife almost two years ago have been told a body has been found on the island.

Peter Wilson, from Rochfortbridge, Co Westmeath, vanished while on holiday in the Canaries in March 2019.

In a statement issued Wednesday night, Peter’s family revealed they have been informed by authorities of remains being discovered in Tenerife.

A statement on the Finding Peter Wilson Fund Facebook page said: “The family of Peter Wilson are aware that remains of a body have been found in Tenerife.

“At this time we are awaiting further information from the authorities in Tenerife.

“The family ask that at this time and especially in light of the pandemic and the importance of adhering to Covid-19 restrictions and guidelines, but also in the event that family may need to travel, that their privacy is respected at this time.

“Thanks, and appreciation, to everyone for all their support.”

The dad-of-two travelled to Tenerife on Friday, March 22, 2019, at around 5.40pm on a Ryanair flight from Dublin Airport for a week’s holiday.

He checked into the Malibu Park Hotel, Costa Adeja, Santa Cruz de Tenerife.

Peter went to Playa De Las Americas nearby on the Saturday morning, March 23, to watch the Ireland vs Gibraltar soccer match in a local pub.

He returned to his hotel in the afternoon before getting a taxi back into Playa De Las Americas later that evening.

The Westmeath man was last seen close to where that taxi dropped him off in the centre of Playa De Las Americas.

Peter did not return to the hotel and his personal belongings including his passport were still in his hotel room. He had his mobile phone and wallet with him.

Gardai have been assisting Spanish police with their investigation into Peter’s disappearance.
