Family of Irish mum missing for 22 years receive 'invaluable' info in search breakthrough

The family of a mum missing for almost 23 years said they have received “invaluable” information about what happened to her and are to search two sites in the New Year.

Fiona Sinnott, 19, went missing near her rented home in Co Wexford, on February 8, 1998. Her daughter is now 23 years old.

Fiona left her local pub, Butler’s in Broadway, 14km outside Wexford town, just after closing time, intending to walk back to her rented accommodation.

This was the last time she was seen alive in public.

Her case was upgraded to a murder investigation in 2005, but no one has ever been charged in
relation to the crime.

Fiona has never been seen since nor has her body been recovered.

In a social media post, her family said: “Special thanks to those of you who came forward this year with information.

“[We] want to assure you that your information was invaluable to us and is most definitely being looked into.”

They also hinted that next year will be a “huge” time for them.

They said: “2021 is the year for huge change for us and we are looking forward to being able to share this news with you. If you have joined us out on searches, shared our appeals, commented or liked our posts thank you. Without your support Fiona’s story would have been long forgotten about. We can’t do this without you.”

Last month the family took part in a true crime podcast in a bid to hold those responsible to account.

Fiona’s family, who still live in rural Wexford, launched the 30-minute podcast yesterday.

In a statement issued on various social media platforms, they said: “We’ve been working on this project for the last couple of weeks and we are really excited about its launch.

“Questions need to be answered. People need to be held accountable and justice needs to be served.”

The family also revealed a fresh search was carried out in a particular location on Wednesday and that they will never give up looking for her remains.

They have been liaising closely with gardai.

The podcast and accompanying video, which includes several unseen photos of Fiona, begins with one of her sisters saying; “You denied her siblings the right to a happy life.

“You’ve denied her friends and the memories they couldn’t make. You’ve denied my family resolution.

“For the love of God, please, we need to have her at home.”
