Family of Govan man missing for over a month plead 'come back to Gran'

The family of a missing Govan man have issued an urgent appeal for him to return home safe, asking him to please "come back to Gran".

Vincent Barr 54, was last seen on CCTV leaving the city centre over the Tradeston footbridge (aka the ‘squiggly’ bridge) and walking into the Tradeston area at 9:10 pm on Friday, 18 September, 2020.

His niece, Jennifer, told Glasgow Live the family are getting increasingly worried about Vincent - known as 'Vinny' - and are urgently appealing for him to return home.

Jennifer last saw her uncle on the 8th of August.

Vincent, who was living with Jennifer's gran in Milton, had left the house and found when he returned that his mother was in hospital.

He moved into a hostel and it was only when Police contacted to say that Vincent had left the hostel without any of his belongings that alarm bells were raised.

Jennifer said: "Vincent had a history of bad mental health and went through periods of depression. Sometimes he's disappeared but he's always come back.

"The Police told us he hasn't been to the pharmacy to pick up any of his medication or lifted any money out of his account. He takes his medication daily so we knew something wasn't right."

Jennifer said Vincent's absence has affected the family, and in particular Jennifer's grandmother, who she says has been taking panic attacks since Vincent went missing.

"My gran, Jess, is really worried and has been taking panic attacks since Vincent left. She's 85."

In efforts to find him, Police have been searching areas that Vincent usually frequented in Govan and the west end.

Jennifer too has been making her own searches in the west end and in Govan. She says there was apparently a sighting of him in Govan but nothing since.

"No one fell out with Vincent when he left, nothing like that happened. We're hopping that he's maybe just out on a bender or something has happened like that. But it was my dad's birthday last week, and usually he would come by, but he never did.

"We just want to say to Vincent to please come back. We are really worried about you. Come back to Gran."

Vincent, also known as 'Vinny' or 'Bardot', is described as white, 5ft 6in in height, medium build, short light brown hair and brown eyes.

He walks with a slight limp. When last seen he was wearing a grey Nike hoodie, black jogging bottoms and grey training shoes.

Sergeant Bob Anderson, Helen Street Police Station, said: “ Officers have been making significant enquiries since Vincent was reported missing including following up a number of potential sightings of him in the city centre.

To date however, Vincent has not been found and as such concerns for his safety and well-being are increasing. Vincent tends to keep himself to himself.

He frequents Glasgow city centre, and also the west end, Saracen and Possil areas of Glasgow. I would urge members of the public or those who know Vincent to report any possible sightings of him to police. I also appeal directly to Vincent to please get in touch with someone to confirm that he is safe and well."

Anyone with information is requested to contact Helen Street Police Station, Govan, via 101, quoting incident number 1116 of Sunday 20th September 2020".
