Family of four including two children in serious condition in hospital after Ayr explosion

A family of four are in a serious condition in hospital after an explosion at their property in Ayr.

Emergency services were called to reports of a blast at Gorse Park in the Kincaidston area of Ayr around 7.10pm last night.

A woman aged 43, and a 16 year-old boy were both rushed to the Royal Infirmary where they remain.

A 47-year-old man was taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow.

An 11-year-old boy was taken to the Royal Hospital for Sick Children.

Police have confirmed their enquiries are ongoing.

A joint investigation has been launched to identify the full circumstances of the blast.

There are not believed to be any other casualties as a result of the explosion.

Chief inspector Derrick Johnston, area commander for South Ayrshire, said: “Investigations are continuing following an explosion within a housing estate in Ayr.

“Two adults and two children remain in hospital in a serious condition.

“Police received a report of an explosion in Gorse Park in the Kincaidston area of Ayr around 7.10pm last night.

“Emergency services attended and a number of houses were evacuated.

“A family of four were taken to hospital. A 43-year-old woman and a 16-year-old boy are currently within Glasgow Royal Infirmary.

“A 47-year-old male is currently within Queen Elizabeth University Hospital and an 11-year-old boy is within the Royal Hospital for sick children.

"This is a complex incident and a number of different agencies are working together to establish the full circumstances of what happened.

"However, our thoughts are with the family and everyone in the local community affected by this.

"A joint investigation with Scottish Fire and Rescue Service will be carried out."
