Five Thai tourists, who were family members, were killed when their pickup truck plunged into a ravine in Luang Prabang, Laos, on Friday.
The incident happened at 2.44pm when a four-door Toyota pickup truck with Samut Prakan licence plates plunged off a steep road and into a ravine between Muang Kasi-Muang Nan in Luang Prabang.
The crash killed all five -- three men and two women, Thai media reported on Saturday after the Nong Khai-based Prajak rescue team was alerted by its Lao rescue counterpart on Friday night.
The five victims, all from the Srisawat family, were identified as Sompop, Suraphan, Supat, Onn and Somporn.
Their bodies were sent to Luang Prabang Hospital.
Authorities believe the driver might not have been familiar with the route, which was a steep road, causing the vehicle to veer off the road into the ravine. The vehicle reportedly left Vientiane for Luang Prabang when the incident occurred, Thai media reported.
