Family of five including two babies killed after their car is crushed by lorries

A family of five were tragically wiped out after their car was crushed in between two lorries.

The horrifying crash in Santa Maria do Para, northern Brazil, had devastating results.

Marcio Ramos de Souza, 45, and his wife Dina Charlen, 39 were killed alongside their two young children.

A teenager travelling in the car, the couple's 14-year-old niece Kethenen Wenil, also died at the scene.

The shocking accident happened on April 19 and nothing could be done to save any of the five passengers.

An investigation by the Federal Highway Police is ongoing, they have confirmed.

Video footage shows the family car being crushed between the two lorries.

The images shows the vehicle behind a slow-moving lorry on the BR-316 motorway last week.

A second lorry, reportedly carrying cement, approaches at speed behind them, crushing the car as they break.

The distressing pictures show the car 'turned into a ball of metal' as it was squashed between them.

According to the Federal Highway Police, the car would have slowed down as it approached a speed bump.

The lorry behind them failed to stop, killing all the passengers instantly.

Firefighters found the bodies of the five people after having to cut them out of the car, a report read.

After the accident, the driver of the second lorry was taken to the local police station.

It is not yet know if he faces charges.

A funeral service was held for the five family members in their hometown of Braganca, over an hour away from the scene.
