The family of a driver who had escape injury after his car hit a lamppost before rolling into a field have thanked the passers-by who stopped to help him.

Police and ambulance crews were called to Lees New Road in Ashton-under-Lyne just after 6pm on Monday.

Photos shared by GMP Traffic on social media show the smashed up Honda CR-V with its windscreen on the ground and both airbags deployed.

Debris from the collision can also be seen scattered down the road.
