Family of Artane man, 23, desperately try to get him home after mental health crisis while on holiday

The family of a young Artane man who went through a mental health crisis while on holiday are desperately trying to get him home.

Matthew Dunne, 23, was on holiday in Turkey when he suffered the crisis.

His family have rushed to be by his side, but are now trying to get him home as his mental and physical health has drastically deteriorated.

A GoFundMe page has been set up his sister Nichola in an effort to raise the €35,000 needed to get an air ambulance that will fly him back to Ireland.

According to Matthew's family, there has been no mental health support since he was hospitalised in Turkey.

They say that it is now a "matter of life and death" to get him home. Thousands of the €35,000 needed has been raised within a matter of hours.

Nichola said: "We desperately need your help to get my brother Matthew Dunne home from Turkey.

"Matthew suffered a severe mental breakdown last week while away with his friend.

"Despite all our efforts the Turkish healthcare system has been no help with no mental health care system to speak of.

"With no food water or fluids in his system for almost a week now, Matthews condition, both physical and mental, has deteriorated drastically.

"This is now a matter of life of death to get him back to safety in Ireland.

"We have been in touch with an air ambulance service who will help at a cost of €35,000.

"Any help big or small would be greatly appreciated. Time really is of the essence with this and we need to have him home."
