The incident took place on the roundabout at Hunter's Road and Stock Avenue with the driver allegedly fleeing the scene after the incident.

It is understood that the vehicle smashed into the side of the car where the family's children were seated and caused as much as €2,000 worth of damage.

The man's wife told a local neighbourhood watch group: "Could you help? I am trying to locate a man driving a purple car with tinted windows and alloy wheels.

"He was possibly involved in a hit and run car accident on 23 Feb at 5pm on the roundabout at Hunter's Road and Stocking Avenue.

"He was in a crash with my husband's car and fled the scene. My children were in the car on the side of impact.

It caused about €2,000 of damage to our family car."
