Family lose US passports and bank cards after car is broken into outside Bristol hotel

A family who were due to fly back to the USA today (September 19) are currently without passports after their car was broken into outside a Bristol hotel.

Carys Miles posted an urgent appeal on Facebook to try and reunite her family with their property.

The post reads: "My family members who are currently over from America stayed in the Marriott Hotel Bristol Cabot Circus and their car was broken into, they had all their passports & bank cards stolen.

"They were meant to fly tomorrow morning from London. American Embassy are unavailable until Wednesday.

"They’ve got 4 young children with them under 7. Please if anyone in Bristol has seen or heard of passports being found get in contact and do the right thing! The last name will be Merrill."

A spokesperson for Avon & Somerset Police said: "A report came in just before 10am on Saturday 17 September that a silver VW Caddy had been broken into overnight Friday to Saturday, while parked in Lower Castle Street, Bristol.

"Stolen items include United States passports and driving licences as well as credit cards.

"Anyone who witnessed the theft or has any other information about the incident can get in touch by calling 101 and giving the reference 5222224749."
