Family lose everything in fire, mum dies with 'no warning' and firework sets home on fire

Mum of two dies just weeks after having 'out of the blue' seizure

A mum of two died just months after she had a seizure "out of the blue".

Lesley Hughes, 68, from Birkenhead, Wirral, fell ill and was rushed to Arrowe Park Hospital in December 2020.

At first, paramedics thought she had suffered a stroke but after tests in January 2021 doctors found a tumour on her brain.

Her daughter Lisa, 35, said there had been no warning signs in the lead up to her mum's seizure.

As she continues to come to terms with her shocking loss, Lisa has turned to fundraising in Lesley’s memory.

Mum and young sons homeless after explosion destroys their house

A mum-of-two is said to have lost nearly everything after a blaze tore through her family home during half-term.

Michelle Holmes, 44, had just taken her two boys, eight-year-old Jayden and seven-year-old Joe, up to bed when her house was rocked by an explosion in the kitchen on October 25.

Michelle's sister-in-law, Chloe Taylor, spoke to the ECHO about the devastation caused to the family home on Poplar Street, Warrington by the explosion and subsequent fire.

Chloe said: "It was absolutely horrendous. Luckily the kids were on half-term and they'd been messing about downstairs so they'd gone up to bed."

Yobs set fire to house with lit firework

A Liverpool home was targeted by 'yobs' who threw a live firework in through the door.

Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service were called to reports of a house fire on Grange Street, Tuebrook at around 7.31pm on Thursday, November 4.

Arriving just three minutes later, three fire engines were at scene on the street of terraced houses, to find a home alight.

It was reported to Merseyside Police that a firework had been thrown into the home through an open door.

Officers put a cordon in place while firefighters dealt with the incident.
