Family living in fear after racists graffiti their home with horrific slurs as they slept - just weeks after moving in

A black family were left devastated after finding disgusting racist graffiti spray-painted on their front door and window.

The family moved to the Tameside home a month ago, and were asleep when racist thugs painted words like ‘n****’ ‘b**** c***’ outside their home and threw a brick through the kitchen window.

The attack occurred around 11pm on Sunday (28 March) and GMP are currently investigating.

Father of three, Gilberto Alfredo, spoke to the M.E.N about how the shocking graffiti brought him to tears and the constant fear his family have been living under since.

The 39-year-old said: “I don’t understand why people hate us like this.

“You hear it happening to other people but you never think it’s going to happen to you.

“I was devastated when I saw the graffiti, I broke down and cried.

“The kids are still scared and my wife hasn’t been able to sleep. We’ve had to move because we don’t feel safe.”

The Angolan family had moved to the area a month ago, and were staying in the property temporarily while waiting for a council house.

Alberto was the one to find the mess when his family was woken up by the sound of the brick thrown through the kitchen window.

“We were all asleep, the kids had school the next day,” he told the Manchester Evening News.

“I heard a loud noise coming from downstairs and thought it was a car crash.

“I went downstairs and saw a big brick on the cooker with the window broken.

“I called the landlord and he told me to call the police but I hadn’t seen the graffiti at that point.

“It was only when I opened the door to look outside when I saw the graffiti everywhere and I just started crying."

A GMP spokesperson said: "Police are investigating following a report of a racially aggravated criminal damage incident and at an address on Shepley Road, Tameside.

"At around 11pm on Sunday 28 March 2021 it was reported that racist graffiti was sprayed onto the front of the property and a brick was thrown through a window.

"Enquiries are ongoing."
