Family left traumatised after puppy loses eye in vicious dog attack during park visit

A beloved pet dog lost an eye in a shocking attack during a visit to the park.

Audrey Duncan, 65, was walking Shih Tzus Mylo, five, and Gizmo, 14, in Kilmarnock with her grandchildren aged nine and four when the attack took place.

During the stroll a Spaniel approached the family and suddenly attacked little Mylo before anyone could react in time.

No one realised the extent of his injuries until they got home and saw his eye “bulging out”, prompting an emergency trip to the vet.

They were told his injuries were so severe he would have to have the eye removed.

Distraught Audrey told the Daily Record : “It is awful. My head is all over the place.

"My two grandchildren were there and we are all traumatised.

"The dog was off the lead and it came over to my two dogs. I thought it was going to go for them and I didn't realise it had bit Mylo's eye.

"I'd say it was over in about three seconds, but I didn't realise till I got home how bad it was.

"He's only five and that's him got to live the rest of his life with one eye."

As well as costing Mylo the sight out of one eye, the attack also meant Audrey had to pay £1,500 to pay for the procedure.

The money had been saved up to decorate her garden.

She has now reported the incident to the dog warden in the hopes it will not happen to anyone else.

A spokesperson for East Ayrshire Council said: "East Ayrshire Council's Environmental Health Service is aware of the incident and has been in contact with the owner of the injured dog to obtain details with a view to pursuing an investigation under the Control of Dogs (Scotland) Act 2010."

Meanwhile, another dog owner urged people to think twice about letting their dogs swim in rivers after her Golden Retriever Bo drowned in the River Mersey.

He was swept away by the current and could not be saved, despite rescue operations by fire crews.

Owner Katherine Swift told the BBC : “I can't believe that I'll never see him again.

"He was such a strong swimmer, I saw him going up and down, and then I just panicked and I ran and I was just trying to call him and call him to the bank.

"He was fighting and fighting and then the current just got the better of him."
