Family left 'heartbroken' as 'great young man' found dead at Marple Aqueduct

The mum of a man found dead at a Stockport beauty spot on Friday said she is broken 'beyond belief'.

The body of Carl Bagnall, 26, was discovered at Marple Aqueduct after concerns were raised to police about his welfare.

There are no suspicious circumstances surrounding his death and a report is being prepared for the coroner, police said.

Paying tribute to the 26-year-old, his mum Michelle Bagnall said: "He was a great young man, just trying to make his way through life.

"His mental health deteriorated drastically over each lockdown and this one was when he’d had enough.

"Carl will be missed so dearly by all his family members, his sisters and brothers, his closest friends and by his dad and I so very much.

"I hope he’s at peace."

In an emotional post on Facebook, she wrote: "When you feel like all else is lost, there is no hope, no way out, remember to reach out.

"We only have one life.

"My son, 26-years-old, took his life on Friday, through mental health.

"As a mum I’m broken beyond belief.

"The impact is devastating, I will never hold my boy again, never see his face, his smile, I will never hear his voice again.

"Men please have the courage to get help. You are someone’s son, husband, father, brother and family.

"His friends loved him and he touched so many people's hearts he just never realised it.

"Each of these people ask the question WHY?

"He could have spoke to me he could have rang or text saying HELP ME! Two words.

"No matter how bad things are never let yourself pass the point of no return.

"GET HELP. I know how hard life can be but know you are loved by so many and if you leave this world it will never be the same.

"RIP Carl. I love you."

A fundraising page has been launched to help pay for Carl's funeral following his tragic death.

The page, set up by his brother Connor Bagnall, said: "I am raising money for my brother Carl who tragically lost his battle with mental health.

"This has completely tore our family to pieces and we all love him so much.

"This is why I have set this page up to help out pay for my brother's funeral but also to help support my mum and dad through this difficult stage."

Connor said he plans to run a half marathon in his brother's memory in the post.

In a statement, police said: "Just after 12pm on January 8, officers were called to a report of a concern for the welfare of a man in Stockport.

"Sadly, officers discovered the body of a man in his 20s in Marple Aqueduct.

"There are believed to be no suspicious circumstances and a report is being prepared for the Coroner."

The family are also appealing for help to find a black Burberry baseball cap that Carl was wearing at the time of his death.

Anyone who finds a cap at that location that matches the description is asked to email rebecca.day@reachplc.com.
