A family were left disgusted and in utter disbelief when their 13-year-old daughter came across a crack pipe while holidaying in a rented caravan.
Kasha Reed and her partner Abigail Brown, both 29, took their six children on a well-needed getaway to a Haven's caravan resort expecting a relaxing and enjoyable experience.
Kasha's nine-year-old daughters Kyanna and Ava stood on the bed inside the caravan and came across an item on top of the wardrobe in their room.
Their big sister Jaymie-Leigh brought down an enormous crack pipe, as well as a glass jar containing a "substantial amount of something", reports Yorkshire Live.
The confused children were unaware of what the drug filled container was, but concluded that it was dangerous and took it to Abigail.
She complained to the staff at the site in Yorkshire and was given a full refund.
The discovery comes despite Haven introducing new cleaning promises during Covid.
Kasha, a supermarket customer assistant, from Barton-upon-Humber, Lincolnshire, said: "My kids could have lost their lives. Luckily, they knew not to touch it.
"The amount in there would have killed me at the age of 29.
"I'd gone to pick a pizza up and it was Abigail that was there, I came back and I couldn't believe that's what she was holding.
"It was unbelievable. If my three-year-old had got hold of it, lives could have been lost. It's really quite serious."
The family, including 12-year-old Lilly Smith, 11-year-old Teigan Reed and Harry Humpleby, three, booked the three-night stay at the holiday park as a treat.
The kids had missed out on socialising with friends and lost time in school, and Abigail had lost her job in retail.
The discovery was made late on the final day of their three-night getaway, in the early hours of June 21.
Kasha said: "My two nine-year-olds were stood on the bed and they asked my 13-year-old what was on top of the wardrobe.
"My 13-year-old got it down and it was a crack pipe, with a substantial amount of something in a glass jar."
Kasha called an out-of-hours number and received no response, she said. She then drove around the site in search of a member of the security staff.
When a security guard was eventually located, he was dealing with a separate issue so the pipe was hidden in the caravan for the night, they said.
They kept it in a bag on top of a cupboard in Kasha and Abigail's room to ensure it was away from the children until security picked it up the following morning.
Kasha was issued with a full refund following the incident and also offered a 50 percent discount on a future Haven booking.
A spokesperson for Haven said: "We are sorry for the experience of the Reed family in relation to their recent stay at
Blue Dolphin.
"Despite the strict cleaning measures we undertake, some drugs related materials were hidden at the top of a wardrobe, which the family located when they stood on the bed.
"We are surprised that any guest would look to have such items on our breaks but would like to assure all guests that we take such incidences extremely seriously and would look to remove the offending items immediately.
"Unfortunately, on this occasion our security team were also managing a serious child welfare incident that night.
"We did remove the items as soon as possible the following morning having agreed this approach with the guests. We have also retrained our cleaning team to ensure that such incidents do not happen again.
"This is far from the Haven experience that we would offer our guests and immediately offered the family a refund on their break and a 50% discount on a break later in the year."
