Family leaves West Country pub 'without paying £215 bill' for Father's Day food and drinks

A family who went out for a meal to celebrate Father's Day together have been accused of walking off without paying the £200+ bill. Captured on CCTV footage, the two couples, with a baby and toddler, are said to have walked out of the West Country pub and left the owners £215 short.

Manager Lucy, of The Fisherman's Arms in Newlyn, Cornwall, told The Mirror one of the men approached the bar and asked how much their bill came to. She said: "One of them came up to the bar, had a look at the bill and said the women were in the toilet.

"He said they were going out for a cigarette and would come back to settle up, but they left," she continued. "The women weren't in the toilet, they had already left."

Lucy told the publication the table of six had ordered a three-course Sunday roast with cocktails and food for the young children. She added it was the first time their pub had been left short.

"They are not from round here, you want to trust people, but this wasn't an accidental walk off. You can see one of the men shushing the other as they walk away on the CCTV," she said.

The pub tweeted: "Anyone know who these people are? Just did a runner without paying, 2 went out the front door and 2 out the back !!!" The restaurant had tweeted earlier in the day to say their head chef had prepared the finest food for their Sunday roast which was available at tables overlooking the harbour between 12 and 8pm.

Devon and Cornwall Police told the Mirror "Police are aware of an incident where it is alleged that a group of people left The Fisherman’s Arms in Newlyn without paying their bill, late afternoon on Sunday June 18.

"Enquiries continue into this matter. Anyone with any information that could assist the police is asked to contact 101."
