Family heartbroken after loving dad tragically took own life after being diagnosed with MS

A family has been left heartbroken after the death of a loving dad-of-six who tragically took his own life after being diagnosed with multiple sclerosis (MS).

Carl Gent, 39, was reported missing on September 10 after leaving his home.

Chronicle Live reports that the search in South Shields came to an end when Carl's body was discovered by police two days later.

Both family and friends have now rallied round after the devastating loss to help raise funds for the funeral costs and to support Carl's six children - Alexis, Kyle, Lannah, Ryan, Ruby and Charlie.

An online fundraising page states: “September 12 2021 Kate and her family received the news we all didn’t want to be true.

“Carl had taken his life leaving behind his beautiful children and the gorgeous Kate.

“Friday 10 September Carl was reported missing after leaving the house with no word after receiving the diagnosis of MS.

“Friday nothing, Saturday nothing, then Sunday Kate’s world came crashing down, Carl’s body had been found.

“Carl didn’t want his family to suffer his care as the time went on and so he made the decision he thought was best.

“I’m hoping as a community we can pull together and help with as much or as little to take the strain off Kate and Carl’s family with funeral costs.”

Carl’s partner Kate said the family are also hoping to raise awareness for men’s mental health, with any leftover funds to go to a mental health charity.

She said Carl was a “loving dad who was loved by many”.
