Family guide to new movie releases

'DREAM HORSE'

Rated PG for language and thematic elements.

What it’s about: The incredible true story of a group of Welsh villagers who come together to breed a champion racehorse.

The kid attractor factor: For horse girls and animal lovers, this will definitely appeal.

Good lessons/bad lessons: Life is better, together, with something to look forward to.

Violence: A scary racing accident

Language: None

Sex: A few veiled references

Drugs: Lots of beer

Parents’ advisory: This is a charming and uplifting story about a community coming together, with an inspiring animal/sports story to boot. Would be fun for older kids and teens who love animals, sports, horses.

'THE DRY'

Rated R for violence, and language throughout.

What it’s about: A slow-burn Australian thriller about a man returning to his small hometown to investigate a friend's murder and reckon with his past.

The kid attractor factor: Not much — this is very much an adult drama

Good lessons/bad lessons: You can't run away from your past or who you used to be. There is healing in confronting that.

Violence: Some scenes of dead bodies, discussion of violence, murder, some bar fights and fisticuffs.

Language: Some swearing

Sex: References to sexual abuse

Drugs: None

Parents’ advisory: This is a mature film that deals with adult themes. Okay for teens.
