'CALL JANE'
Rated R for some language and brief drug use.
What it’s about: A fictionalized depiction of The Jane Collective, a real-life network of women who helped other women obtain safe illegal abortions in the late 1960s and early 1970s, before Roe v. Wade.
The kid attractor factor: This is an adult drama, not much for kids here.
Good lessons/bad lessons: Sometimes you have to listen to yourself and do what you think is right, regardless of the law or family morals.
Violence: A brief moment of police violence against a protester.
Language: Some swearing and strong language.
Sex: References to sex (it's a movie about abortions), and some kissing, suggestive scenes, but nothing graphic.
Drugs: One scene of marijuana use.
Parents’ advisory: This film is fairly tame for an R rating — it would be fine to show older kids and teens who might be interested in the topic.

'ARMAGEDDON TIME'
Rated R for language and some drug use involving minors.
What it’s about: A cinematic memoir of the writer/director James Gray, who inspects his early '80s childhood growing up in Queens, New York, with a sensitive and keen eye.
The kid attractor factor: This is a film about sixth grade kids, but the tone and subject matter skew more adult.
Good lessons/bad lessons: Stand up for those who are less fortunate than you, be grateful for what you have, even if it seems unfair, and most importantly, be a mensch.
Violence: A troubling and violent scene of child discipline/abuse.
Language: Some swearing throughout, a use of a racial slur.
Sex: None
Drugs: Middle schoolers smoking marijuana.
Parents’ advisory: This is a mature adult drama about childhood coming of age, but not quite appropriate for kids. OK for teens.
