'BIRDS OF PREY'
Rated R for strong violence and language throughout, and some sexual and drug material.
What it's about: The Joker's girl Harley Quinn gets her very own spinoff, and now she's an independent woman with a girl gang, the Birds of Prey.
The kid attractor factor: The comic book origins, bright colors and playful attitude of Harley will intrigue young kids, but this is decidedly a movie for grown-ups.
Good lessons/bad lessons: It's better to be with your girls fighting bad guys than fighting bad guys on your own _ power in numbers, ladies.
Violence: The film is extremely violent, with extended fight sequences using bats, shotguns and weapons. Some gory torture scenes and extreme explosions.
Language: Swearing and strong language throughout.
Sex: Sexual references but no graphic nudity.
Drugs: Some drug references.
Parents' advisory: Way too violent and raunchy for little kids _ this is for teens only.
'THE LODGE'
Rated R for disturbing violence, some bloody images, language and brief nudity.
What it's about: A pair of kids and their future stepmother find themselves snowed in at a cabin where mysterious and disturbing events start to occur.
The kid attractor factor: Some teens may be drawn to the chilly horror genre.
Good lessons/bad lessons: Most of the lessons have to do with questionable parenting, but also, don't torment your dad's fiancee.
Violence: Some disturbing gun violence and self-mutilation.
Language: Some strong language/swearing.
Sex: Some female nudity.
Drugs: Prescription pill use.
Parents' advisory: This horror film is far too terrifying for kids _ for mature audiences only.
