Family guide to new movie releases

"ALIEN: COVENANT"

Rated R for sci-fi violence, bloody images, language and some sexuality/nudity.

What it's about: A team of space colonists explore a mysterious hidden planet in the "Alien" universe.

The kid attractor factor: The sci-fi/horror genre will attract teen audiences.

Good lessons/bad lessons: There are many horror movie-type lessons, such as: never get separated and be wary of others who seem too good to be true. Larger life lessons about the dangers of faith in the mysterious. Ultimately: trust no one.

Violence: Lots of extreme, gory, horror movie style violence. The film opens with a crash and a fire that burns up several crew members and we see their charred remains. There is wild action-style violence, with epic battles against the aliens.

Language: Strong language and swearing throughout.

Sexuality: A sex scene with graphic nudity.

Drugs: Just whiskey.

Parents advisory: This one is OK for older teens but too scary and sexually graphic for tweens and teens.
