Here’s a selection of the best new family-friendly streaming releases this week:
Friday on Disney+, teens and older kids can be inspired by the documentary “Own the Room,” from Emmy Award-winning directors Cristina Costantini and Darren Foster, who directed “Science Fair.” This Discovery collaboration follows five students from across the globe who travel to Macau, China, to pitch at the most prestigious entrepreneurship competition in the world, the Global Student Entrepreneur Awards.
Also on Disney+, for a premium VOD rental fee of $29.99, “Raya and the Last Dragon” premiered last Friday, March 5, if you haven’t caught it yet. With voices from Kelly Marie Tran, Awkwafina, Gemma Chan, Daniel Dae Kim, Benedict Wong and Sandra Oh, the animated film is the story of a warrior named Raya who is determined to find the last dragon in Kumandra. Directed by Don Hall, Carlos Lopez Estrada, Paul Briggs and John Ripa, the film is rated PG for some violence, action and thematic elements.
This Friday on Netflix, the live-action family comedy “Yes Day” debuts, starring Jennifer Garner and Edgar Ramirez, directed by Miguel Arteta. A mom and dad who usually say no pick one day to say yes to their kids’ wildest requests, leading to a whirlwind day of adventure. Rated PG for some rude and suggestive material, and brief language.
On HBO Max, catch up on the first season of “Tig n’ Seek,” an animated television series about Tiggy, an 8-year-old detective, and his cat Gweeseek, and their adventures as they solve cases and retrieve lost items at the Department of Lost & Found. Season 1b drops Thursday.
