Family guide to new movie releases

'ROGUE ONE: A STAR WARS STORY'

Rated PG-13 for extended sequences of sci-fi violence and action.

What it's about: A stand-alone installment in the Star Wars canon, "Rogue One" follows the Rebel Alliance as they attempt to stop the Empire's world-destroying weapon.

The kid attractor factor: Well, it is a "Star Wars" movie, so your kids might be a little bit excited. Stormtroopers and droids and Darth Vader and more.

Good lessons/bad lessons: Always stand up to tyranny, fascism and those who impose their will with violence. The fight is bigger than any individual. You have to have hope.

Violence: This is a very dark and gritty installment, and the third act is a wildly violent shoot-em-up. There are several on screen deaths, ship crashes, apocalyptic explosions, etc.

Language: None

Sexuality: None

Drugs: None

Parents advisory: Though it's not bloody, it really is quite violent, and could be too scary for younger kids.
