Family guide to new movie releases

'SING'

Rated PG for some rude humor and mild peril.

What it's about: Think of it as "Zootopia Idol" _ an animated comedy about a city filled with walking, talking, singing animals, who put on an American Idol-style singing competition.

The kid attractor factor: Well, the animated cuddly animals, and the soundtrack filled with pop hits.

Good lessons/bad lessons: When you hit bottom, the only way to go is up. Unleash your voice, come together and celebrate and share your talents.

Violence: A scene of peril where a building is destroyed in a flood and crumbles, a robbery heist and getaway.

Language: None

Sexuality: Do twerking bunnies count?

Drugs: None

Parents advisory: Appropriate musical fun for kids of all ages.

'WHY HIM?'

Rated R for strong language and sexual material throughout.

What it's about: Cultures clash when a Michigan family travels to California to meet their daughter's new boyfriend _ a Silicon Valley tech mogul.

The kid attractor factor: The raunchy, broad family comedy, as well as star James Franco, will attract teen audiences.

Good lessons/bad lessons: If you accept people for who and how they are with honest and open communication, it's possible to bridge any cultural divide.

Violence: Laird (Franco) engages in combat and parkour training with his concierge and best friend Gustav; there is one massive, dangerous mishap with a moose sculpture.

Language: One of the sources of contention between Laird and the family is his constant swearing and use of the F-word, as well as his TMI attitude about their sex life.

Sexuality: Frequent and frank discussions of sex, a view of Laird's naked rear, animal genitals, implied but not graphic sex scenes between Laird and Stephanie.

Drugs: Drinking and marijuana use, a scene where Stephanie's mother gets high.

Parents advisory: Definitely too sexually mature for kids, okay for older teens.

'ASSASSIN'S CREED'

Rated PG-13 for intense sequences of violence and action, thematic elements and brief strong language.

What it's about: A death row prisoner regresses into his Spanish ancestor, a member of the Assassins, who have fought the Knights Templar for centuries in order to protect humanity's free will.

The kid attractor factor: Based on a popular video game, this adaptation will attract teen audiences and fans of the game or action blockbusters.

Good lessons/bad lessons: Free will is worth fighting for, even if that means accepting that violence is part of humanity.

Violence: There is a lot of violence (it's about assassins after all), including hand to hand combat, martial arts, horse chases, stabbings, parkour around Medieval cities, throat slitting.

Language: A brief instance of swearing.

Sexuality: None

Drugs: None

Parents advisory: Definitely too violent and dark for kids, but fine for older teens.

'PASSENGERS'

Rated PG-13 for sexuality, nudity and action/peril.

What it's about: Two passengers aboard a luxury spaceship en route to a new colony planet wake up 90 years before arrival.

The kid attractor factor: Stars Jennifer Aniston and Chris Pratt will likely draw teen and younger audiences, as well as the big budget sci-fi genre

Good lessons/bad lessons: There are some choices in life that are impossible to make, but it's always ethically complicated to take control of someone else's fate. If things don't go as intended, make the best of it.

Violence: A few sequences of action and near-death peril as the pair try to repair the ship.

Language: None

Sexuality: The pair spend their time alone aboard the ship getting to know each other sexually, there are several sex scenes and some exposed bums.

Drugs: Drinking with the robot bartender.

Parents advisory: In terms of sexuality, too mature for kid audiences, okay for teens though.
