Family guide to new movie releases

Netflix has been rolling out the family holiday content since the beginning of November, so if you haven't yet caught up with "The Christmas Chronicles 2" starring a lusciously bearded Kurt Russell as Santa (now with more Goldie Hawn!), it dropped on the streaming service Nov. 25, and is rated PG for mild action/violence and brief language. Another new family holiday film on Netflix is the musical fantasy "Jingle Jangle: A Christmas Journey," Rated PG for some thematic elements and peril, the film stars Forest Whitaker, Keegan-Michael Key, Anika Noni Rose, Phylicia Rashad and Ricky Martin, with Madalen Mills making her film debut.

Netflix has more content old and new arriving on their streaming service for kids and families, including the animated film "Angela's Christmas Wish." Written and directed by Damien O'Conner and co-written by Irish writer Frank McCourt, it's the sequel to "Angela's Christmas," and is the "heart-warming tale of a determined little girl who sets out to reunite her family in time for Christmas." It dropped on Netflix Tusday.

Also available on the service as of Tuesday is the 2006 Oscar-nominated animated feature "Monster House," directed by Gil Kenan. Co-written by "Community"'s Dan Harmon, this is the story of a haunted house that's actually a monster. Rated PG for scary images and sequences, thematic elements, some crude humor and brief language.

Hitting Netflix Friday is the animated special "Captain Underpants Mega Blissmas," the ultimate holiday content for the Captain Underpants-obsessed kid in your life.

New on HBO Max this month is the 2011 animated hit "Kung Fu Panda 2," the infectious tale of Po the Panda, voice by Jack Black, directed by Jennifer Yuh Nelson. That's rated PG for sequences of martial arts action and mild violence. On Thursday, HBO Max premieres the animated "Bugs Bunny's 24 Carrot Holiday Special," featuring the wascally wabbit and his Looney Tunes pals.

For older kids and teens, try on the witty new "Saved by the Bell" reboot now streaming on Peacock, or the edgy, updated version of "The Hardy Boys" coming to Hulu on Friday.
