This week is a great time to watch the animated feature films that scored Oscar nominations on Monday. All five films are currently available on streaming services, and watching or revisiting with your family will be a treat before the ceremony on April 25.
On Disney+, check out “Soul” (also nominated for Best Score), about a jazz pianist who finds himself trapped between Earth and the afterlife, and “Onward,” about two brothers who embark on a epic quest to bring their father back from the dead.
“Soul” is rated PG for thematic elements and some language.
“Onward” is rated PG for action/peril and some mild thematic elements.
On Netflix, pair the fantastical Chinese American animated musical “Over the Moon,” about a girl building a rocket to meet a mythical moon goddess, with the charming Aardman Animations film “A Shaun the Sheep Movie: Farmageddon,” featuring everyone’s favorite plucky sheep, Shaun, and his own encounter with a being from space.
“Over the Moon” is rated PG for some thematic elements and mild action.
“A Shaun the Sheep Movie: Farmageddon” is rated G.
On Apple TV+, the mesmerizingly beautiful “Wolfwalkers” brings Tomm Moore’s Irish Folklore Trilogy to a close (the previous films are “The Secret of Kells” and “Song of the Sea,” both available for digital rental). The film follows a young hunter who befriends a free-spirited girl who is part of a tribe rumored to transform into wolves at night.
“Wolfwalkers” is rated PG for sequences of violence and peril, scary images, some thematic elements and brief language.
