Family guide to new movie releases

'BLACK PANTHER'

Rated PG-13 for prolonged sequences of action violence, and a brief rude gesture.

What it's about: The King of Wakanda, T'Challa, is challenged for his throne and has to decide how his country will participate in alleviating global oppression.

The kid attractor factor: The Marvel superhero who has popped up in other Avengers films finally gets his stand-alone, and finally, audiences get an African superhero. Action, humor and adventure will draw kids and teens.

Good lessons/bad lessons: Never give up on yourself, consider how you and your gifts can help reduce suffering, and give to others.

Violence: Many superhero-style action and fight sequences throughout, but not much blood or gore _ more fantastical. Car chases, spear fights, shooting, etc.

Language: One middle finger.

Sexuality: A chaste kiss.

Drugs: None.

Parents advisory: Great for older kids and teens, but too action-filled for very small children.

'EARLY MAN'

Rated PG for rude humor and some action.

What it's about: A caveman challenges some Bronze Age higher-ups to a soccer match for his village.

The kid attractor factor: The claymation style and silly humor is great for kids.

Good lessons/bad lessons: Fight for what you have, you're better as a team than as individuals, share the wealth. Greed is bad.

Violence: Some hunting scenes, an asteroid hitting earth, some chase scenes and action-packed soccer matches.

Language: None.

Sexuality: None, but a few claymation nude jokes.

Drugs: None.

Parents advisory: Fine for kids of all ages.
