FANTASTIC BEASTS AND WHERE TO FIND THEM
Rated PG-13 for some fantasy action violence.
What it's about: This prequel to the Harry Potter universe finds a British wizard, Newt, smuggling magical creatures into 1926 New York City and using them to fight evil.
The kid attractor factor: This will be total catnip to kids, tweens and teens who love the Harry Potter franchise, though this film is about adults, not kids.
Good lessons/bad lessons: Embrace who you are, don't suppress it, turn your unique qualities into skills and gifts. Immigrants might be different but they can help us in many ways. Gentle care and tenderness can be far more powerful than violence and terror.
Violence: There are several sequences of magical destruction and mayhem in New York City, chase scenes, threatened violence, implied child abuse, and shots of dead bodies killed by an invisible force.
Language: None
Sexuality: The sexy Queenie flirts with Kowalski, they share a kiss.
Drugs: Some giggle juice at a speakeasy.
Parents advisory: The violent and dark elements will be too scary for smaller children but appropriate for older kids, tweens and teens.
