'THE KID WHO WOULD BE KING'
Rated PG for fantasy action violence, scary images, thematic elements including some bullying, and language.
What it's about: A young boy pulls a sword from a stone and finds himself living out Arthurian legend in modern-day England.
The kid attractor factor: The kid-scaled adventure, humor, heart and young cast.
Good lessons/bad lessons: Live by a code of honor that requires honesty, bravery, teamwork, love and helping others.
Violence: Some scary action scenes involving fiery zombie knights the kids have to fight off, a massive battle scene at the end requiring a whole army of kids, as well as some bullying and other violent actions.
Language: None.
Sexuality: None.
Drugs: None.
Parents advisory: This family-friendly adventure has a wonderful message for kids (and adults) about how to be the best you can be in the world, living by a certain code of conduct. The action might make this too scary for the littlest ones, but appropriate for all other ages.
'SERENITY'
Rated R for language throughout, sexual content and some bloody images.
What it's about: A magical and strange island where a fisherman is approached by a woman from his past with a violent request.
The kid attractor factor: Teens might be into this, but it's unlikely kids will want to see it.
Good lessons/bad lessons: Every action has an equal and opposite reaction. Karma and consequences are real. Don't beat up on the little guys or it may come back tenfold.
Violence: Discussion of violence and killing, a bloody beating, etc.
Language: Swearing throughout.
Sexuality: Discussion of sex, sexual abuse, a few sex scenes, male nudity from behind.
Drugs: Drinking.
Parents advisory: This is far too mature thematically for kids _ this one is for teens and adults only.
