Family guide to new movie releases

'CROODS: A NEW AGE'

Rated PG for peril, action and rude humor.

What it's about: This sequel to the 2013 animated feature picks up with the Crood clan and their new addition, Guy, while they encounter a new family, the Bettermans.

The kid attractor factor: The animated format, family-friendly humor and favorite characters.

Good lessons/bad lessons: Even though we all have differences, we're stronger together.

Violence: Some sequences of peril and danger.

Language: None.

Sex: A smooch.

Drugs: At least one rather hallucinogenic scene with "shark milk."

Parents' advisory: This loopy, colorful caveman comedy is some well-deserved family-friendly fun.

"Croods: A New Age" is in theaters Wednesday, but if you'd rather stay at home this week to be safe, here are some other family-friendly films to stream.

Give "The Croods" a rewatch or a first watch before watching the sequel, streaming on Netflix. In this film, the Croods trek through a fantastical world with their new pal Guy after their cave is destroyed. Rated PG for some scary action.

You can't go wrong with a classic: The 1973 animated episode "A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving" is streaming on Apple TV+, featuring the hijinks of the "Peanuts" gang as Charlie tries to host Thanksgiving dinner when Peppermint Patty invites herself over.

YouTube has a wealth of short educational videos about Thanksgiving and Native Americans in America, which can help to foster discussion about the origins and meaning of the holiday. Check out the YouTube channels for Kids Academy or SciShow Kids, and the PBS Kids YouTube channel has the full, hourlong special "An Arthur Thanksgiving."

The 2013 Thanksgiving themed animated feature "Free Birds" is available on Hulu. The film features two turkeys traveling back in time to change history and get turkey off the menu for the holiday. Warning: You may end up with some young vegetarians. Rated PG for some action/peril and rude humor.
