Family guide to new movie releases

'KNIVES OUT'

Rated PG-13 for thematic elements including brief violence, some strong language, sexual references and drug material.

What it's about: A group of detectives questions a wealthy family about the death of their father in this twisty murder mystery.

The kid attractor factor: This is mostly fun for adults, but teens might be drawn to stars like Chris Evans.

Good lessons/bad lessons: The ones who are the kindest and most compassionate, genuine friends will always make out best in the end.

Violence: This is about a mysterious death, so there is some morbid content with the shots of the dead body. Some other minor fisticuffs and perilous sequences.

Language: Some swearing.

Sex: References to sex, but otherwise none.

Drugs: Some marijuana use and drinking.

Parents' advisory: A fun and socially relevant murder mystery. Great for teens if they are interested, good for older kids.

'QUEEN & SLIM'

Rated R for violence, some strong sexuality, nudity, pervasive language and brief drug use.

What it's about: A young couple go on the run after a shocking police shooting.

The kid attractor factor: Teens may be drawn to the cool style, soundtrack, stars and socially relevant topic.

Good lessons/bad lessons: This is a morally complex tale, the good and bad lessons are quite convoluted, but in the end, love is all that matters.

Violence: A violent shooting at the beginning and end of the film, a kidnapping, etc.

Language: Swearing throughout.

Sex: One graphic sex scene with some nudity, as well as a few sex workers with nudity.

Drugs: Marijuana use.

Parents' advisory: This intense "Bonnie and Clyde" story has some violence and sex that makes it too mature for kids. Fine for teens.
