Family-friendly Care Home Open Day to welcome East Kilbride locals

A care home in East Kilbride is inviting local people to join in its celebrations for Care Home Open Day.

The team at Cathkin House on Glasgow Road will be opening the doors to the care home on Friday, June 28 for a free family-friendly event.

It is a countrywide initiative to create lasting relationships between care homes and their local communities.

This year’s theme celebrates the role of arts within care, which is important in encouraging residents’ self-expression, and helps to create meaningful experiences.

The team at Cathkin House has organised an art-themed party to celebrate, with entertainment, activities and creative fun for all.

Visitors can look forward to a gallery of artwork from local artists, live entertainment from local man Douglas to get everyone in the spirit, and a tasty afternoon tea from the home’s head chef.

Lynn Rossi, manager at Cathkin House , said: “Creative activities are such an important part of life for people in care, whether it’s painting to help enhance hand-eye coordination, or just reminiscing by putting on some music – the arts are a vital part of life here at Cathkin House.

“We’re so excited to be hosting our Care Home Open Day event.

“We had a brilliant time when we did this last year so it made sense for us
to open our doors to the local people of East Kilbride again and show them just how much fun you can have in a care home.”

The open day will run from 1.45pm-4pm.
