Family forced out by estate yobs

A family of five have been driven out of their home by thugs.

Desperate dad Paul Lewins has branded police "useless."

He and his wife, Sandra, claim their ordeal began when they moved into a three-bed semi on the Sherburn Road estate in Durham, with their children, Stephanie, now 18 and Thomas, 13. Now they have moved to West Rainton.

Machine driver Paul, who was beaten with a baseball bat, said the thugs had hurled bricks through their windows, and vandalised their cars.

They had even threatened to kill the family, who named their tormentors to police - but still the thugs roam free.

Paul, 41, said: "These kids are pure filth. They are absolutely lawless.

"Yet the police have ignored our desperate cries for help - they have been useless."

The family has constantly been pestered by teenagers taking drugs and drinking. One stood at their gate and exposed himself to Stephanie.

Police sought an Asbo against the lout but the case collapsed. Then thugs stoned Paul's Vauxhall Vectra, causing extensive damage to its roof.

The next day Paul was savagely beaten by the same gang. Paul named his attackers to police but says no arrests were made.

A Durham Police spokesperson said: "Arrests were made, patrols stepped up and other measures are in hand which we hope will end the problems."
