In a statement, Family Dollar’s parent company Dollar Tree (DLTR) -) said that the new features will make it easier for frequent shoppers to explore weekly circulars, find products and manage coupons through a redesigned wallet feature.

“The launch of our new Family Dollar app is one more step in the digital transformation currently underway at Dollar Tree and Family Dollar,” Dollar Tree chief information officer Bobby Aflatooni said. “We are investing across the enterprise to make shopping with us even easier and more enjoyable.”

Dollar Tree also said that future updates to the Family Dollar app will include in-app eCommerce, customer personalization, and an expanded rewards experience. Dollar Tree's chief marketing officer said in the same statement that the app's new user experience is not solely beneficial to customers, but also to brands who sell merchandise through Dollar Tree's group of stores, as it presents an opportunity to promote directly to customers.

The improvements come as value-conscious consumers flock to discount chains like Family Dollar and Dollar Tree for a variety of goods. During the latest earnings call on Aug. 23, Dollar Tree CEO Rick Dreiling reported that their family of stores attracted more than five million new customers this past year and that their frozen food and center food categories, as well as their assortment of private brands, is helping to drive growth.

The parent company also plans to introduce a mobile appl for Dollar Tree branded stores.
