Family distraught as twin girls, 3, die after becoming trapped in 'horrific' house fire

A family is devastated after twin sisters, three, were killed in a "horrific" house fire.

Mum Tankya Ford and her five-year-old son were outside when emergency crews arrived and could only watch on as twins Aisha and Lailani died at the scene.

Firefighters - called to the incident in Batlow, New South Wales, at around 11am on Monday - pulled the toddlers from the building, but they couldn't be revived.

Tankya's brother Levi Ford has now set up a GoFundMe page to provide the grieving family with financial some support, after their home and belongings were destroyed.

Tankya and her son, five, made it out of the house before emergency crews arrived

Superintendent Bob Noble, of New South Wales Police, said he couldn't begin to imagine what the family were going through.

He told news.com.au : “Obviously it's a particularly horrific incident, the lives of two young girls having been lost, the family and so forth, friends of the family are quite rightly distraught as are neighbours.

“The mother of the two deceased children is distraught, there was another young child present at that time, and you can only imagine what they're going through.

The twins' uncle Levi Ford is hoping to raise money for the family

“It's just devastatingly sad that two young lives have been snuffed out like that.”

The cause of the fire remains unclear but police did confirm there was a wood fire burning inside before the blaze.

Neighbour, Col Anderson, told 9news : "Three years old, it's the start of their life you know, when you think what could be in store for them."

On the GoFundMe page, Mr Ford said: “My sister tragically lost her three-year-old twin daughters in a house fire, which claimed not only the lives of these two young children but also their home and belongings.

“Her son has lost all the belongings including toys and clothing...losing everything is hard enough without having to worry about financials.

“Anything no matter how small would be appreciated,” he added.

An investigation into the cause of the fire has been launched by Riverina Detectives and the Arson Unit of State Crime Command.
