Family devastated as young man missing for days

A young man has been missing for four days in a "very out of character" disappearance. James Beer, 29, was last seen at 8.30pm on Wednesday when his mother visited him at his home in Loughor, Swansea.

In an appeal for help from the public, James' sister Hannah told WalesOnline: "We're just devastated. We are a close family and it's really impossible to comprehend it."

James is 5ft 8ins tall with a slim build, light brown short hair and possibly a goatee. His family believe he may be camping in remote mid-Wales having possibly taken a train or bus from Bynea to Llanwrtyd Wells on Thursday. He is known to enjoy camping in 'the Desert of Wales', particularly an area just east of Tregaron. But the family added that James "could be anywhere" and they would appreciate if people in all areas could keep an eye out for him.

Hannah said: "A few family members have gone to look for him through the night... He doesn't drive so he would be on foot or using public transport. He's not really a city person so we're looking at more rural areas. We believe he hasn't got much with him at the moment."

When James talked to his mum on Wednesday he did not speak about any plans to go on a trip. "It's very out of character, not like him at all," said Hannah. "He always lets us know where he's going and when, and he will plan it out."

The family believe James is in a vulnerable state of mind and are urging anyone who sees him to call police. James may be wearing a bottle-green light jacket and navy baseball cap. He has a forearm tattoo of an MC Escher birds design.

Hannah said it would be helpful if farmers could keep an eye out for walkers. She added that the family would be grateful if anyone could help share their appeal or print their posters for display in local businesses.

Anyone who may have seen James, or who has information which will help police find him, is asked to contact South Wales Police quoting occurrence number 2300163003. You can call on 101 or go to the force's website.
