A family has been left heartbroken after their boy's body was tragically recovered from a Dublin reservoir on Sunday evening.
Teenager Abdul Gafar drowned after entering the water at Bohernabreena near Dodder Park at around 5pm.
The alarm was raised when Gardai were told the 13-year-old victim had gotten into difficulty and had not reemerged from the water for a time.
Officers arrived at the scene where they recovered Abdul's body from the water a short time later.
The teen was rushed to Crumlin Children's Hospital but he sadly died after the best efforts of paramedics and hospital workers.
A GoFundMe page has been set up to help his grieving family who want to erect a water well in honour of his memory.
It says: "We are raising funds to purchase a water well for our young brother who recently passed away on the 09/08/2020.
"The water well will benefit poor communities who are desperately in need of it and also it will benefit our brother as he begins his test in the grave."
It continues: "Abdul Gafar was a 13-year-old brother who recently drowned in a river.
"We ask Allah to grant him the highest level of Paradise and to accept him as a Shaheed(martyr)."
People have been very generous with their donations with the GoFundMe almost hitting its €15,000 target after just one day.
