Family devastated after vandals attack 'pristine' grave

A family from Southport have been left upset after their "pristine" family grave was vandalised over the weekend.

The grave, that honours four members of the Grainger family and one from the Webb family, has been left wrecked after the weekend vandals took to throwing stones, ripping up a birthday card and destroying heartfelt ornaments.

The grave commemorates family members including Red Rum's head lad, Jackie Grainger.

Lyndsey Webb, 39, regularly visits the grave in memory of her dad, grandad Jackie, two grandmas and her aunt.

The full-time carer told the ECHO: "My sister went down on Saturday with one of her children just to make sure the grave was tidy and none of the flowers needed replacing.

The grave was discovered by Lyndsay's sister (Lyndsey Webb)

"Everyone is saying it's kids, a lot of children hang round there. Some people have said their graves have been damaged as well but we keep ours pristine. We keep up with the blue flowers because my dad was an Evertonian.

"I think it's because it stands out, not many people keep on top of their graves or put lots of ornaments on."

The mum-of-two spoke of how 'raw' it is after she lost her dad just two years ago at the age of 59. Her dad was buried at the grave after he was embraced by her mum's side, being the only person remembered there with the name Webb.

She added: "It's just upsetting. My dad only died two years ago so we have only just, over the last year, got the grave up and running for my dad and for us to have somewhere to go and see dad. It's still a bit raw."

Anyone with information on the crime should contact police on the non-emergency 101 number.
