Family desperate for answers on day missing Tapi turns 22

Police have renewed their appeal to find a missing IT graduate - as a birthday milestone passes without him.

Tapiwa Matuwi, known as Tapi, disappeared in the early hours of Thursday, February 7, following a night out in Swansea.

The last sighting of him was at Swansea Yacht Club, at around 7am that day.

But, on the day family and friends should be celebrating Tapi's 22nd birthday, he has still not been traced.

Detective Chief Inspector Matthew Davies said: “Tapi is 22 today and should be celebrating his birthday with his family and friends but instead they are left wondering where he is and what has happened to him.

“We continue to investigate his disappearance and we need your help to give his family the answers they desperately need."

Tapi had been enjoying a night out in Swansea city centre and had been at Fiction nightclub in Little Wind Street with friends before he went missing.

He was active on Whatsapp around two-and-a-half hours before he was sighted at the yacht club at 7am.

Since Tapi's disappearance family and friends have carried out exhaustive searches to find him, handing out posters across South Wales.

Speaking earlier this year, Tapi's father, Munyaradzi Zvada said he won't stop looking until he finds his son.

He said: "We are living in a nightmare, since the day Tapi went missing everything has just stopped and come to a standstill.

"We are trying to stay strong but deep inside everyone in the family is just broken," he said.

Now police are keen to speak to the man in the CCTV image below, as he was in the Trawler Road area on the night Tapi went missing.

Officers believe he may also have been in Fiction nightclub.

DCI Davies said: "He may not believe he saw anything of interest but every piece of information is vital and we would ask him to contact us.”

Tapi, from Llansamlet, graduated last year at the University of Wales Trinity Saint David after studying IT.

Anyone with information should contact South Wales Police on 101 or anonymously quoting occurrence 1900051830.
