Family bid emotional goodbye to Dewsbury man found in river

An emotional goodbye was bid to Colin Vasey at a funeral service in Dewsbury.

Family and friends gathered for a service at Dewsbury Moor Crematorium and then a funeral reception at Hanging Heaton Golf Club.

The 81-year-old, from Shaw Cross, went missing on November 17, prompting a huge search by police and the local community .

Sadly Mr Vasey's body was found by police divers at Horbury Bridge, near Wakefield, a month after he went missing.

Today his granddaughter Emma Schofield thanked everyone who attended for their support in a post on social media.

She said: "Finally laid our Colin (Grandad) to rest, lovely service with great family and friends!

"Thank you to everyone for your words of support and to all who attended, we will now raise a glass to our Col!"

She added: "Not the greatest start to the year, can only get better! Love you forever and always grandad I’m sure you’re at peace to share your next chapter with grandma xx."

She posted her thoughts on the Find Colin Vasey Facebook group which had helped co-ordinate the extensive search.

In an online obituary, Mr Vasey was described as the beloved husband of the late Eileen and the much-loved dad of Margaret, Julie, Chris and the late Paul, and a dear father-in-law, grandad and great grandad.
