Family and colleagues' devastation as ambulance worker dies from Covid-19

Emotional tributes are being paid to an ambulance worker who died after a devastating battle with Covid-19.

Peter Millington worked for North West Ambulance Service (NWAS) for more than 30 years.

Over the weekend, he tragically died aged just 58 after being struck down with coronavirus.

During his career with the ambulance service, Peter worked as a paramedic at Wigan Ambulance Station, before becoming an operational trainer, NWAS has said.

Peter's passion and skill for computers eventually led to him to move into the 'information field' as a capacity manager, firstly at the Broughton Emergency Operations Centre, then in Manchester working as part of the Regional Planning Team.

"He was a very valued and popular member of the team, always having a happy outlook and very helpful no matter what the issue," said a spokesperson for NWAS in the wake of the death of the 'friend and colleague'.

Heartbreaking tributes have flooded in for the 58-year-old, who leaves behind his fiancée Lynn Caddick and his two children - Sophie and Alex, who also works for North West Ambulance Service in the Broughton Emergency Operations Centre.

His children said: “We are devastated at the loss of our lovely dad.

"He brought joy to everyone he knew and will be missed by many. We will forever hold the special memories we have of him in our hearts.”

Chief Executive Daren Mochrie paid tribute too, saying: “On behalf of North West Ambulance Service, I would like to send my sincere condolences to Peter’s family for their sad loss.

“Peter was a well-loved colleague and a friend to many.

"Known for his charming nature and smile that would light up a room, he will be deeply missed.

“We are offering our support to his family and colleagues at this difficult time.”
