Families who lost love ones to infections at Glasgow super hospital deserve transparency

Families who lost their loved ones at the Glasgow super hospital due to infections deserve to get answers from an inquiry that begins today.

Kimberly Darroch, the mum of 10-year-old Milly Main who died in the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in 2017 after contracting an infection, has campaigned fearlessly for justice and this newspaper has backed her all the way in her fight.

If it weren’t for NHS whistleblowers speaking out then we may not be in this position and we could be much further from the truth.

There are so many patients who have been affected by the failings at this flagship facility.

This inquiry must find out exactly what went so badly wrong at what was supposed to be a world-class hospital.

It has been beset by problems since it opened its doors.

The failure of bosses at the top of the NHS is undermining the hard work done by our incredible doctors and nurses who go beyond the call of duty to save lives.

Any recommendations from the inquiry must not pull any punches.

People have died as a result of apparent mismanagement and the only way to avoid a repeat is for this inquiry to be fearless.

The families of those affected deserve the truth, it is the least the inquiry can do for them.

What is clear is that the failings in Glasgow must never be allowed to happen again whenever a new hospital is opened.
