A topless man covered in blood was spotted jumping through gardens and seeking help in West Derby this morning.
Families were disturbed by the man banging on the back windows of homes on Mab Lane at around 7am.
It is thought he was being chased by another man.
Witnesses said the man - who was also barefoot - was seen leaping fences during his escape and even ran into one home before being asked to leave after scaring children at the property.
One woman said: "At around 7am this morning a man, about 26 years old, jumped into our back garden and knocked on the kitchen window asking for help as he had been stabbed.
"He had no top or shoes on. We called the police and ambulance and he hid on top of our shed until he saw the ambulance and ran to them for help."
Merseyside Police confirmed they were called to the area in response to the incident.
A spokesman said: "We can confirm that officers are investigating after a man was found injured in West Derby this morning, Monday, September 30.
"At around 7am, emergency services were called to Mab Lane to reports of a man in his 20s having sustained an injury to his hand, after allegedly being chased by a second man. It is believed that the injury was the result of the victim jumping over a fence.
"The victim received a minor injury and was treated but does not wish to assist any further."
