Families 'gutted' over closure of popular play centre

Parents say they are 'gutted' over the sudden closure of a popular play centre.

The Playcentre (Slide and Seek) in Hyde was open as usual over the weekend but failed to reopen on Monday morning.

Listed as 'permanently closed' on Google and its website shut down, one mum also shared a post on Facebook saying the owner called her to cancel her son's birthday party there in November and 'was absolutely devastated by the situation'.

Parents have told Manchester Family they are 'gutted' about the closure as it was a firm favourite among families in the area.

Mum Dawn Billinghurst said: "My four-year-old loved it there. It was one of the cleanest play centres around Glossop and Tameside that we have been to - it was very spacious and the staff were always friendly.

"I'm so sad that it's closed. I hope it reopens as my little one was only asking yesterday to go one day after school."

Nicci Bennell said it was also a firm favourite with her children Ava and Calel.

She said: "We are gutted that it's closed down, it was my kids' favourite play centre in Tameside and we have been going since they were born six years ago.

"We loved how spacious it was, whereas some are quite cramped and you can't get a seat when it's busy. They also always served great food.

"We recently got a summer pass for both kids and went at least eight times over the summer holidays."

Rachael Smith agreed, saying: "So many memories of the place, it's so sad to see the closure.

"I took both my two to the craft events there and still have some of the Christmas decorations they made there. They still enjoy going there and will be gutted they can't go anymore."

It was only this weekend that Rachel Hollin discovered the venue for the first time.

She said: "My little boy only went yesterday for the first time and absolutely loved it. I can't believe we only discovered it yesterday."

The M.E.N has been unable to reach the owner of the centre for comment.
