Families could soon see loved ones again at care home which lost 23 residents to Covid

Residents at a care home which lost 23 people to Covid-19 is hoping to invite families back in for the first time since March.

A total of 53 residents at Wren Hall Nursing Home in Selston have now received their first dose of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine, with 105 staff have received both doses while 41 are waiting for their second.

Officials at the home now hope that once lockdown is comple they will be able to let some families back into the home to see their loved ones through through specially-erected screens.

Anita Peet, manager of the home which was hit badly by the pandemic last year, hopes it will "rekindle the relationship" between loved ones.

She said it has been "mixed emotions" through the 10-month ordeal as the home has battled with coronavirus, losing 23 residents.

She described the first wave as a "horrendous" time for the care industry, but now there is a light at the end of the tunnel, she told Nottinghamshire Live.

"It is really good news," she added. "The team that came with the vaccine were fantastic and worked really hard.

"At the end of the day, because they came with 200 vaccines, they did not waste any and opened it up to relatives of staff and residents.

"It will be 12 weeks later until residents get a second dose. It will be nice to think there will be an end to it all.

"Because we have been put into tier 4, all visits are stopped unless they are at end of life so we are just waiting for things to change.

"Each visit will be risk assessed to see if the visit has to be through a screen. As soon as we can we will be open.

"We are just hoping that over time we can get everyone together and will be able to rekindle the relationship that people value so much.

"We are in a better place than we were in March and we are looking forward to the day when Covid goes away."
