Families across same town wake to find Christmas lights wrecked overnight

Families across the same town have woken to find the Christmas displays outside their homes have been wrecked as they slept.

More than a dozen or so properties in Connah's Quay, Flintshire, have had the wiring for their dazzling outdoor lights cut through and decorative displays vandalised.

One family discovered the power source to the 4,000-strong LED display which had turned their garden into a winter wonderland had been severed, while others had illuminated Christmas trees snapped and ornamental candy canes smashed, the Daily Post reports.

The displays in the area had been such that an itinerary for sightseers wanting to get some extra Christmas cheer was even being compiled on Facebook.

Instead, residents who've been hit are now taking to social media to warn others to stay vigilant.

Ellie Louise Baker, a supervisor at a nearby hotel, said she got lots of responses after posting that a pair of Rudolph antlers had been yanked from her car roof.

"Lots of people began replying they’d been targeted too," she said.

"And, for the last three days, more and more posts have been added.

"Now people are saying they won’t bother next year, which is so sad."

Another person posted: "This makes me so angry. Everyone's making an effort to do lights for children to look at and then it gets ruined," while a third wrote, "All our lights were cut too. Gutted, just moved in, so had to buy them all new this year.

"I have managed to salvage some with electrical tape but not putting them back out now."

North Wales Police told the Daily Post that none of the incidents in Connah's Quay have yet been reported to the force.
