A fleet of new ferries - two named after a pair of Newcastle's most famous sporting exports - have arrived in the city's harbour.
Six River Class and three Emerald Class vessels were delivered to Newcastle on Tuesday morning.
Two of the River Class ferries will be named after Newcastle sporting icons Cheryl Salisbury and Kurt Fearnley.
The River Class vessels are expected to be ready for sea trials soon, but a Transport for NSW spokesperson said the three Emerald Class ferries will be towed to Port Macquarie to be completed before they are ready for testing.
The work in Port Macquarie is due to begin in the middle of this month.
"With their main structures complete and engines and all components installed, the three Emerald ferries will undergo a final fit-out which will include installing external seating sourced from Western Australia and ensuring all Australian-supplied equipment ranging from navigation systems to control panels are working," the Transport for NSW spokesperson said.
"Inspections by Australian surveyors and final sea trials will also be carried out."
